How to show empathy as a coach: The effects of coaches’ imagine-self versus imagine-other empathy on the client’s self-change and coaching outcome

Abstract Cognitive empathy, expressed as either imagine-self (imagining oneself in the other’s situation) or imagine-other other person his/her is essential for self-change and satisfaction coaching. In two studies, we investigated difference between coaches’ versus empathy. a survey study ( N 1 = 242), found that more important coaches perceived client’s self-change, valuable they not only rated empathy general but also (but imagine-self) particular. an experimental 2 57), manipulated examined effect on clients’ coaching satisfaction. The results revealed positive of these outcome factors. Thus, one main practical implication relevance showing instead coach.
